The swimmers covered the swim distance in the Mediterranean. Then it was time to cycle along the Costa Blanca before the running course along the coastal promenade was to be the grand finale of the race. Up until the final part of the run, the leaders of the men's race were still close together. But then the Swiss Sven Riederer, who prevailed in front of Vicente Hernandez (Spain) and Grant Sheldon (Great Britain), broke away. The best German was Steffen Justus in eighth place.
