The Marathon World Series invited to the Italian Val di Fassa last weekend. Atypical for a marathon, the lap to be driven was quite short - 70 kilometers in length spread over 2700 meters in altitude. Weakened by a cold, Steffen Thum from the Rose Ultra Sports Team started the race.
"As a professional athlete, being sick is not the same as being sick. I wasn't bedridden by any means, but my body just wasn't functioning at 100 percent yet", so Thum before his start.
From the start he was unable to keep up with the high pace of Olympic champion Miguel Martinez, who was leading the field. However, Miguel could not keep the leading position. The Italian Juri Ragnoli took the lead and finished first after 3:01:50 hours with a lead of around 40 seconds. He is followed by Hector Leonardo Paez leon and Tony Longo. Thum meanwhile quarreled whether he shouldn't stop to protect his battered body. But giving up is not one of Aalender's specialities. He finished the race in 29th place and was therefore able to take twelve points for the overall standings. Important points for Thun, because that's how he keeps the lead in the overall classification.
