Cycling fans who want to experience the world title fights in Tuscany live on their home screen these days will have to adapt. Because neither the public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, who seem to have lost interest in sport for a while anyway, nor Eurosport will broadcast the cycling highlight.
The reasons for the waiver of transmission are manifold. While ARD and ZDF hide behind their mantra of "disinterested TV viewers" and only want to bring short reports in their news programs, Eurosport was unable to reach an agreement with the Swiss-based marketing agency Infront. Just a few weeks ago, Infront received the marketing rights for the World Championships from the World Cycling Union UCI.
Fans in German-speaking countries are therefore left with only two options. Firstly, there are foreign-language providers that can be received via cable or satellite. Secondly, there are online alternatives. The UCI itself offers an ad-free live stream. In addition, numerous streams are listed on the online services cyclingfans.com and steephill.tv.
