He was already in the lead before the U23 race. In order to secure the overall World Cup, he practically only had to get through. How Markus Schulte-Lünzum (Focus) approached this task was impressive. Shortly after the start, he took the lead in the field and quickly built up a small lead. In the second round, he was hit by a flat tire that threw him back. In the end he finished eleventh. However, this was enough for him to be the first German to be able to celebrate victory in the overall World Cup.
Victory at the last U23 World Cup of the year went to the reigning European champion Jordan Sarrou (Focus-Rotor-Coaching-System.fr), who relegated Anton Cooper (Cannondale Factory) and Michiel van der Heijden (Giant) to second place. Julian Schelb (Lexware-Rothaus), who was recently runner-up in the world championship, also finished seventh.
