cycling: Hollywood Championship Cycling: Lampater and Grasmann take victory

15 October 2013 by Veit Hammer

The USA is not necessarily the country of the Six Days or the Six Day Style events. There hasn't been a race like this in the States in the past 40 years. However, there has been movement in the scene for a few months. The first result of the efforts was the Hollywood Championship Cycling Meeting at the Velo Sports Center in Carson, California. For three days, the international Madison elite hunted for points and round wins.

From day one, the duo of Leif Lampater and Christian Grasmann left no doubt that they traveled to California with the goal of overall victory. "I already raced on this track in 2004 and 2005," said Lampater, visibly happy to be able to compete here again in an ambitious manner.

The biggest competition came from the USA itself. Bobby Lea and his partner Jackie Simes managed to put the duo from the Rudy Project Racing Team under pressure right from the start. On the third day, shortly before the end, it even looked as if they would take the victory home with them. A final attack that ended in a lap win four laps before the end of the race brought victory to the German duo. The Americans came second, followed by Erfurt's Marcel Barth, who teamed up with Swiss Franco Marvulli.

The last night is here again in the video.
