Day two took the field from Cairns to Lake Tinaroo. At the beginning of the 90-kilometer stage, a trio around the two Austrians Krenn and Josef Benetseder as well as Mark Frendo were able to break away and to the first refreshment station were a one-minute distance from the chasing squad. While the Canadian Cory Wallace was able to catch up, it was Josef Benetseder who gradually pulled away on the many climbs and was now in the lead with a lead of almost two minutes. About ten kilometers from the finish, however, Frendo was able to catch up and in the end also won the second stage of the Crocodile Trophy ahead of Benetseder and Wallace.
“Benetseder was incredibly strong on the climbs today. But I was able to ride the last downhill much faster, so I was able to catch it and win.”, said Frendo at the finish.
In the women's race, it was again the Belgian Liesbeth Hessens who secured victory ahead of her two Italian opponents and extended her lead.
