It took eight years for an Australian to win the Crocodile Trophy again. Following Adam Hansen's victories in 2004 and 2005, this year it was Mark Frendo who brought the trophy home to the race. Although Frendo couldn't win today's final stage, his lead should be enough. Josef Benetseder secured the last stage. Mark Frendo followed in second place ahead of Jiri Krivanek and was visibly satisfied at the finish: "I'm so happy to have won. I still can't really believe it."
In the women's category, Liesbeth Hessens also won the Crocodile Trophy on the last day. She secured every single stage by a huge margin, and took victory with a lead of 8:32 hours. She was followed by the two Italians Prati and Sordi, who eventually completed the overall podium. Hessen's was also relieved at the finish: “That was the longest and hardest race I have ever contested. Winning here is incredible and I'm super happy.”
