According to the UCI website, the recently appointed UCI President Brian Cookson awarded the post of MTB Commission President to the Turk Emin Müftüoglu.
Emin Müftüoglu is already President of the Turkish Cycling Federation, but at first glance his new job seems a bit surprising. So far, Müftüoglu has hardly been noticed as an advocate of MTB sports. In general, Turkey is rarely represented at World and European Championships. Moreover, Turkish drivers hardly belong to the group of favorites in important races.
What tactics Cookson is pursuing with this appointment is unclear. What is more certain, however, is that the President of the MTB Commission cannot be given the same importance as, for example, the MTB coordinator Peter van den Abeele, who is employed by the UCI, or the rest of the Commission. Finally, they elaborate and submit the proposals for the development of the sport. The newly elected President only has to do administrative work and approve it. The members of the new MTB Commission will be announced at the end of October.
