Jan Ullrich calmly and in a certain way commented smugly on the announcements by the new IOC President Thomas Bach that he would have his medals at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney checked. He stated to the TV broadcaster Sky Sport News HD: "That's nonsense." Ullrich pointed out that the case had already been checked several times.
"I don't know why so much money is wasted. The medals stay with me. I won it - and rightly so. If he wants to see medals, he's welcome to come and see them.", Ullrich commented on Bach's suggestion.
Bach's consideration had preceded Lance Armstrong's return of the bronze medal from the Sidney time trial competition.
