Only a few days ago, the organizers of the Berlin 6-day race announced the start of the reigning world champions in two-person driving, Morgan Kneisky and Vivien Brisse. [Link] Now the next top-class athletes who will start in the velodrome have also been determined.
With the Spaniards David Muntaner and Albert Torres, the reigning vice world champions and vice European champions are also traveling to the 103rd edition of the Berlin 6-day race. From January 23rd to 28th, 2014, both will deliver an exciting race to the other teams. “We are very pleased that we have now managed to sign David Muntaner and Albert Torres, the runners-up world champions, alongside the current world champions.”, said the sports director Dieter Stein. "That promises exciting duels."
Muntaner and Torres caused a bit of a surprise at the Track Cycling World Championships in February in Minsk, Belarus, when they fell just three points behind Kneisky and Brisse from France in the Madison. Neither of them are newcomers: both Muntaner and Torres have previously won the Track World Cup and numerous national track titles. Torres, who comes from Menorca, was also fifth in the 2012 World Cup at the Madison with Sebastián Mora and has now made it onto the podium with Muntaner.
David Muntaner and Albert Torres also had a successful start to the current winter season. At the European Track Championships in Apeldoorn, they again took silver behind the two Italians Elia Viviani and Liam Bertazzo and a few days later came second in the 6-day race in Grenoble, which was shortened to four days. The two Spaniards will be at the velodrome for the first time in January.
