cycling: Superprestige Gavere: Nys wins before Walsleben

17 November 2013 by Veit Hammer

Cyclocross World Champion Sben Nys (Crelan-KDL) celebrates a perfect weekend by winning the Superprestige Gavere. However, if he had to fight to the finish at yesterday's Hasselt GP, he was in a class of his own today.

The race had started anything but optimally for the Belgian. After the start he was in the front midfield, but steadily worked his way up the field. The worst opponent was the German champion Philipp Walsleben (BKCP-Powerplus), who attacked Nys several times, but was unable to break away from him decisively. The Kleinmachnower finally had to pay tribute to his efforts when Nys increased the speed in the last muddy section. In the end, Nys was able to celebrate his ninth victory in Asper-Gavere. Behind Walsleben, the Belgian champion Klaas Vantornout took third place.

The winner of the GP Hasselt was also able to celebrate among the women. The Belgian champion Sanne Cant (Enertherm-BKCP) also showed the back wheel of the competition in Asper-Gavere and won clearly ahead of Helen Wyman (Kona) and the British champion Nikki Harris (Young Telenet-Fidea).
