cycling: Will cyclocross become Olympic?

The current President of the UCI, the Brit Brian Cookson, underlined his passion for cyclocross sport in an interview with the Belgian television station VTM. "I'm a fan of discipline", said Cookson, who also spoke about future opportunities for cyclocross. “At the moment it is not possible to include the discipline in the program of the Olympic Winter Games. This is due to the rules of the IOC. But maybe they can be expanded. [cyclocross] could, for example, increase the number of athletic sports.”

However, it may be some time before the IOC puts the inclusion of the sport in the Olympic winter program on the agenda. In this Cookson would also like to work on the resumption of Madison in the Olympic program. The competition was part of the program until 2008, but was canceled without replacement before the London games. Furthermore, Cookson emphasized an improvement in the international cycling calendar in a direction that would benefit less "Confusion among fans and sponsors" provides.
