cycling: 6-day race in Bremen: Closest final of all time

15 January 2014 by the editorial office

The 6-day race in Bremen ended with the closest result in the history of the Hanseatic city event: After a total of six nights, the first two teams in the ranking not only had the same rounds, but also had the same number of points.

In the end it was allowed Leif Lampater happy about victory at the 50th Bremen six-day race. Together with his Dutch partner Wim Stoetinga, the driver from the Rudy Project Racing Team prevailed over his teammate Marcel Kalz, who was at the start with Robert Bartko. The decision, in the truest sense of the word, was not made until the finish line. Because while Kalz and Bartko had been in front up to that point, Lampater managed to secure ten points by winning the last big hunt and thus tie the score. Lampater and Stroetinga were happy because the last finish is decisive for the overall standings.

“This victory is indescribable. It feels incredibly good to have won here.", said Lampater after crossing the finish line. "Many thanks to the great audience and of course to my partner Wim, with whom I harmonized very well here." It was Lampater's second win in a six-day race this winter.

The Austrian Andreas Müller and the Dane Marc Hester finished third in the overall standings, who on the final day were able to push Christian Grasmann (Rudy Project Racing Team) and his partner, the reigning Madison World Champion, Vivien Brissé into fourth place. Both had led together after the first day. Both teams were also able to stay in the clear round until the end. Another driver from the Rudy Project Racing Team, Andreas Graf, finished fifth. He was at the start with the Dane Jesper Mørkøv and was able, among other things, to win the overall Little hunts celebrate.
