Michael Schumacher's tragic skiing accident is currently making headlines around the world. Immediately after the accident, the seven-time F1 world champion was flown to the hospital in Grenoble with a severe traumatic brain injury and has been receiving intensive treatment there ever since.
Alban Lakata, runner-up in the marathon and European champion last year, also fell while skiing. The Achilles tendon of the Topeak Ergon team driver tore. Only recently the team around Lakata was reorganized and supplemented with a strong driver in the form of the Czech Kristian Hynek. In the new season, Lakata and Hynek should not only contest the individual marathon races, they also wanted to take part in the Cape Epic and the Transalp together. But after the initial diagnosis, Lakata will probably be out for the entire first half of the new season and will therefore not be able to play for the Cape Epic. According to his own statement, Lakata would only be able to fully load the tendon again in four months, which means that the Marathon World Championships in June of this year are a realistic goal. The German champion Robert Mennen could start as a possible substitute for the injured Lakata.
We wish Alban a good and above all speedy recovery!
