After a total of four participations in the Olympic Games and numerous appearances in the national jersey at world championships, world cups and other competitions, Anja Dittmer is retiring after 21 active years. No doubt her retirement will leave a void in the DTU team.
Dittmer's career was marked by numerous successes. In 1999, at the age of 23, she won gold at the short-distance European Championships in Portugal. Six years later, she was the only German athlete to date to secure the overall World Cup. In addition, several World Cup victories, including Hamburg in 2003 and 2004, as well as six German championship titles adorn her palmarès.
However, in an interview with the triathlon portal, she revealed that she does not want to stay completely away from the sport tri-mag.de. “It is a great challenge for me and a new life purpose. In this way I remain true to triathlon and can pass on my experience and enthusiasm for the sport to the next generation.", Dittmer commented on her new position as a trainer in Ron Schmidt's team at the youth training center in Potsdam. In addition to this function, Dittmer study at the European Sports Academy.
