cycling: Carvallo and Colucci win the Ironman 70.3 in Pucon

13 January 2014 by Rick Schubert

The 2014 Ironman 70.3 season kicked off last weekend in Pucón, Chile. The favorites around Daniel Fontana, Reinold Colucci and Paul Matthews approached the race almost hesitantly. None of the named triathletes dared a serious attack in the water or on the bike and so the field remained comparatively close together until the second change. But none of the opponents could keep up with the pace presented by the Brazilian Colluci on foot. The Olympian was the only competitor to finish under the four-hour mark and secured his fourth title. Local hero Felipe Rojas caused a small sensation. In an exciting running duel he beats Paul Mathhews and the Italian Fontana, who had to make do with third and fourth place.
