January 14, 2014 by the editorial team

The national title fights in cyclocross were not only held in Germany last weekend. The elite drivers also met in the other European countries and in the USA for a rendezvous.

//Belgium

A lot was written in the run-up to the Belgian title fights in Waregem: Some drivers described the course as too difficult, others too playful. The reigning world champion Sven Nys (Crelan-AA Drink) was unimpressed by all of this, teaching the assembled competition a lesson and embarking on a long solo escape early on. In the end, Nys celebrated its ninth national championship title. Behind him, Rob Peeters (Vastgoedservice) took second place ahead of Bart Wellens (Telenet-Fidea).

Sanne Cant (Enertherm-BKCP) again secured victory in the women's category.

//Switzerland

In the Scheiz, the race was balanced for a long time. Only a few hundred meters from the finish Lukas Flückiger was able to break away from a group of six and jubilantly enjoy winning the title. Behind him, Marcel Wildhaber and Simon Zahner took the places. Flückiger's team colleague Arnaud Grand made a note of a rather rare kind, who was so annoyed about his fourth place that he lodged a protest. The reason: Flückiger would have briefly left the track during the race and would therefore have to be disqualified.

In the women's category, Sina Frei won ahead of Katrin Leumann and Jane Nussli.

//Result

1. Lukas Flückiger (BMC)
2. Marcel Wildhaber (Scott)
