With the departure of Sam Schultz, who will compete for Cannondale in the new season, and the signing of Sergio Mantecón Gutiérrez, the Trek Factory Racing Team is repositioning itself. After Mantecón clinched multiple podium finishes in top-flight XC races in 2013, the Spanish Olympian joins Daniel McConnell and Emily Batty's team. Already at the first World Cup last year, the 29-year-old was able to convince with a second place and that under the most difficult conditions imaginable. With his tenacity and his great talent, he also convinced Trek's team manager Jon Rourke: “Our team consists of ambitious, talented and above all young athletes who want to make a name for themselves and have great potential. So Sergio is the perfect addition to our team.”

Mantecón himself also commented on his move: "With the full support of the Trek Factory Racing Team, I am well equipped and absolutely competitive."
