The Italian Sacha Modolo (Lampre-Merida) denied the Slovak Peter Sagan (Cannondale) the stage win as a present on his birthday. On the demanding home straight, the Italian was launched perfectly by his team-mate Maximiliano Richeze, who ended up third, and was able to celebrate his first win of the season.
As expected, there were no changes in the overall standings. Colombian Nairo Quintana (Movistar) secured his first stage race victory of the year. Phil Gaimon (Garmin-Sharp), winner of the opening stage, finished second, also holding off Argentinian Sergio Godoy (San Luis Somos Todos) on the final day.
