Product news: Essax Shark Saddle: Jaws Part 5?

25 February 2014 by the editorial office

The Spanish saddle manufacturer Essax brings with the Shark a saddle that is unmistakably reminiscent of a great white shark, and not just because of the name. Together with Custom4.us, who specialize in biomechanics, designed the idiosyncratic saddle to protect riders from an incorrect sitting position. According to Essax, the wrong sitting position is the reason for hip rotation, joint pain, uneven or inefficient pedaling and much more. As a result of numerous studies, the shark fin concept was born.

The studies showed that although the riders felt comfortable in their position, the weight was unevenly distributed on the saddle. The Essax Shark saddle is intended to give the rider feedback via the fin as soon as he slips too far back and leaves the ideal position, and thereby help. The theory sounds logical, but whether it also works in combination with a pad remains to be seen.
