Product news: Shimano launches multisport camera

The Japanese component manufacturer Shimano is expanding its product portfolio with the multisport camera CM-1000. The camera is the first of its kind from Sakai, but it is said to boast light weight, high resolution and the most advanced connectivity. The camera should enable outdoor friends to capture their special experiences as high-quality photos or HD videos and thus make them unforgettable. Key product properties and highlights of the CM-1000 include:

  • Bright, brilliant recordings: According to Shimano, the lens and image sensor in the CM-1000 work together perfectly to record excellent HD films and high-quality photos under all conditions. The high-speed lens with an aperture value of f2.0 should guarantee excellent recordings even in poor, dark lighting conditions, the 16 megapixel CMOS image sensor is also responsible for HD video recordings. With 135° and the super wide-angle setting of 180°, two picture angle modes are available, while the auto-rotation function in 90° steps should enable the user to rotate the camera in all directions or mount it in different positions and still maintain a perfect landscape image.
  • Lightweight and compact design: Weighing 86 grams – including battery and lens cover – and measuring 44x70x30 mm, the CM-1000 fits in any trouser pocket
  • Water Resistance: Without a bulky, cumbersome to assemble, additional underwater housing, the CM-1000 is itself waterproof to a depth of 10 meters. According to the manufacturer, it achieves the IPX-8 standard for water resistance, the highest level for electronic devices that can be used permanently under water.
  • Advanced connectivity and intelligent integration: The CM-1000 uses WiFi connections and special apps for both iOS and Android operating systems to be able to display live images with mobile devices, play videos, adjust camera settings and determine the image section. In addition, the CM-1000 is the only one that also uses ANT+ and ANT connections with private protocols to wirelessly receive data from bike computers and other accessories as well as Shimano's new D-Fly Di2 transmitter. In this way, performance data can be integrated directly into the recorded videos.

//Versatile, user-friendly design

Due to the well thought-out design, the water resistance of the housing, the connectivity features and the integration with other electronic devices, the operation of the CM-1000 very easy and intuitive. With only two control buttons, the user has direct and quick access to all essential functions and settings, two-color LED lights and notification tones provide unmistakable information about the selection made. Their waterproofness lets the CM-1000 look good even in the rain. The connectivity and integration with mobile devices and bike computers simplifies the setup as well as the playback options, while the ANT/ANT+ data allows cyclists to embed important information such as heart rate, selected gear or cadence in the videos and thus use them for targeted training evaluation.

//Accessories, software and availability

Included with the CM-1000 included is the camera itself including a lens cover, an adhesive mount and a helmet mount, a USB cable and a quick start guide. The CM-1000 uses an app for iOS 6.0 and Android 4.2 to operate the camera via mobile device, make settings and play videos. Software for Windows 7 and Mac OS also enables advanced video editing, fish-eye correction and the display and integration of ANT/ANT+ information in videos.

As an additional accessory for the CM-1000 Among other things, there are other mounts such as the handlebar mount CM-MT01, the flexible mount CM-MT02, the chest strap mount CM-MT03 and the cap holder CM-MT04 available, all of which are characterized by simple, tool-free assembly and adjustment.

The CM-1000 will be available from May 2014 in the following European countries: Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway and Spain.
