cycling: Superprestige Hoogstraten: Sven Nys in a class of its own

February 9, 2014 by the editorial office

cross1

Belgian champion Sven Nys (Crelan-AA Drink) is without a doubt the driver of the season. In Hoogstraten he was able to win his 64th day in a Superprestige race. In the end, he clearly dismissed Klaas Vantornout (Sunweb-Napoleon Games) and Niels Albert (BKCP-Powerplus) on the extremely soft and therefore difficult course.

Albert quickly opened the race and initially built up a small lead. However, this was not enough to keep Nys in check. About halfway through the race, he initially caught up before taking over the lead a little later. After that, Nys once again underlined why he leads the Superprestige series. By the last lap he was able to increase his lead over Albert, who was finally intercepted by Vantornout.

In the end, the best German was Philipp Walsleben (BKCP-Powerplus) in seventh place. Marcel Meisen (Kwadro-Stannah) fell right after the start and lost valuable time as a result. Dutch champion Lars van der Haar (Rabobank) struggled with the conditions and got off his bike prematurely.
