The Polish champion Michal Kwiatkowski won the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana as a soloist. The 152km Deia to Monasterio de Lluc race, also the third of the Mallorca Challenge, features several categorized climbs, including the serpentine road up Puig Major, the island's highest mountain, which awaited the riders 20km from the finish .

This should also prove to be an executioner. In the first showdown of the climbing specialists on European soil, Kwiatkowski emerged as the strongest rider. 27 seconds behind the Pole, Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky) led a prominent group with Rigoberto Uran (Omega Pharma-QuickStep), Luis Leon Sanchez (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and Damiano Cunego (Lampre-Merida) to the finish.

The race was previously controlled by a breakaway group that included Jesus del Pino (Burgos-BH), Petr Vakoc (Omega Pharma-QuickStep), Tanel Kangert (Astana), Javier Mejias (Novo Nordisk), Maxim Belkov (Katusha) and Antonio Piedra (Caja Rural -Seguros RGA) who finally reached the monastery in Lluc together with Boasson Hagen.
