March 18, 2014 by the editorial office

The first crocuses and snowdrops over the past few weeks have left no doubt that spring is just around the corner. So the time has come to hang the winter bike in the shed and give the racer or MTB the first spurs of the 2014 season.

The transition between the seasons always brings new joys, but it is also always connected with the decision of the correct choice of clothing. Especially in the past few weeks, it was usually too cool in the morning to drive for a short time, but by midday it was almost too warm to explore the local roads in winter clothes. What applies to jerseys and trousers also applies to the choice of socks. Because if you don't wear warm overshoes, you can quickly lose interest in the ride if you make the wrong choice.

equipment and practice

The Pearl Izumi Elite Thermal are still quite inexpensive at a price of just under 20 euros, considering the mix of equipment and practical behavior. They are made from 49 percent nylon, 48 percent merino wool and 3 percent spandex. The toe construction is smooth, so that there is no friction in the shoe and you run the risk of getting blisters. At the midfoot, the anatomical cut ensures a tight fit. There is also a mesh insert here, which ensures better air circulation under the shoe closures. The shaft is pleasantly long at 21,5 centimeters. Thanks to the high-quality merino wool, not only the feet themselves, but also the ankles and the area of the Achilles tendons are protected from the cold. In general, the socks were convincing with their protection against the cold. Just a few minutes after putting them on, your feet will feel comfortably warm. And they stay that way on the bike even when the wind is colder.

Although the processing is consistently positive - even after several washes Elite Thermal still in good shape - so the choice of size should be mentioned as a small shortcoming. Here you should choose one size larger when buying.

Conclusion

The clothing manufacturer Pearl Izumi has with the Elite Thermal Wool socks in the range, which not only score points in winter, but also in the transitional period.
