cycling: Chris Horner seriously injured in training

The American Chris Horner was seriously injured in a training accident. As his Lampre-Merida team announced, Horner had an accident in the Lake Como region. More details are not known. A collision with a car may have been the cause of the accident.

The 2013 Vuelta winner was immediately taken to a nearby hospital in Lecco, where doctors diagnosed four broken ribs and lung injuries. Horner also sustained lacerations to his head.

More details on his condition are expected to be announced in the coming days.

Update

Christ Horner is now doing well given the circumstances. However, he must remain in the hospital at least until the middle of next week. This was announced by his team today.
