cycling: Kalmthout – Vlaamse Bosduin: over and over

9 April 2014 by the editorial office

The Kalmthout floodlit race, also known as the Vlaamse Bosdiun, will not take place this year. This was announced by the organizers. "The situation is hopeless", so the simple statement.

It has been known for a number of years that the race represented a financial risk for the organisers, the Wielerclub Bosduin VZW. The race did not belong to any of the major Belgian series. Instead, they tried last year together with the TV station Four increase the importance of the race. This does not seem to have worked. New sponsors could not be acquired, the expenses should continue to exceed the income. "It would not be wise to take more risks to host the race in the future", says Louis van den Buijs, the president of the Wielerclub Bosduin VZW.

In 2013, local hero Kevin Pauwels (Sunweb-Napoleon Games) prevailed ahead of Lars van der Haar (Rabobank) and his teammate Klaas Vantornout.
