Lukas Baum dominated the junior scene of the Olympic XC discipline last season. In addition to the title of German champion, he also secured European honors and the world title. Also this year he will attack again on the MTB. But not only there, but also on the road. The Rad-Net Rose team secured Baum's services. The 19-year-old from Neustadt an der Weinstrasse wants to gain more experience in the team and develop his all-rounder skills.
“Here I am given the opportunity to compete in top-class races. I would like to take the opportunity to present myself as a mountain biker on the road in the best possible way", Baum is looking forward to the new challenge. "We are pleased that we were able to sign up such a talented racing driver and that we can offer him the opportunity to further develop his sporting skills.", says team manager Ulrich Müller.
For Lukas Baum, the street is not entirely new territory. "I learned cycling early on the road and I know the rules of the game", according to Baum. He started racing at the age of ten and switched to mountain biking at the age of 14. In the Olympic discipline, he was promoted to the U23 squad of the Bund Deutscher Fahrrad (BDR) this year. The man from Rhineland-Palatinate has been riding mountain bikes for the Fiat Rotwild team since 2012. He sees the forthcoming balancing act between road and off-road as a great opportunity. His role model: The three-time MTB World Champion Nino Schurter (Scott-Odlo), who this year rides the Tour de Suisse and Tour de Romandie for the Australian WorldTour team Orica-GreenEdge.
