cycling: Scheldeprijs: Hat-trick for Marcel Kittel

April 9, 2014 by the editorial office

dubai3

Arnstadt's Marcel Kittel has won the Scheldeprijs again after his victories in the past two years. In an impressive manner he prevailed in front of the American Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Sharp) and the Dutchman Danny van Poppel (Trek).

“I am happy that I was able to win the Scheldeprijs for the third time in a row”, so smock, "This is something very special for me!"

The 200 kilometers from Antwerp to Schoten are usually marked by falls. However, this year there were no incidents. On the contrary. A leading group around Britain's Luke Rowe (Sky), who was able to hold his ground in front of the field up to a few kilometers from the finish, made for positive headlines. The FDJ.fr team had set the pace for a long time, but ended up getting nothing.

He drastically melted the lead of the front runners as Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) started to force Alessandro Petacchi into the final. In the last three kilometers, Giant-Shimano finally showed up at the front of the field. In the end, both teams got good results. The Raublinger Team NetApp-Endura can also be happy about Sam Bennett's fifth place.
