Cycling: Michael Albasini (Orica-GreenEdge) dominates his home tour - at least as far as stage wins are concerned. After he had to hand over the leader's jersey of the Tour de Romandie to the Slovenian Simon Spilak (Katusha) the day before, he came up trumps again on the 174-kilometer fifth stage of the day, which led the peloton to Fribourg. In the sprint of a three-person leading group, he prevailed against Thomas Voeckler (Europecar) and Jan Bakelants (Omega Pharma-QuickStep).
The trio broke up late in the race, giving them a narrow lead going into the final kilometer. Voeckler and Bakelandts tried to take advantage of this in order to take Albasini by surprise. However, he skillfully countered his fellow riders.
Simon Spilak crossed the finish line nine seconds behind the trio in the field. This puts him ahead of Chris Froome (Sky) ahead of the final time trial. The Brit is the favorite for tomorrow's final stage. The battle against the clock will be held in Neuchatel over a distance of 18.5 kilometers.
