cycling: World Ports Classic: André Greipel wins the start

24 May 2014 by Veit Hammer

Cycling: While the Maglia Rosa is being fought for in Italy and the Alps are getting in the way of the peloton there, in the Netherlands the wind is the factor that needs to be taken into account.

The World Ports Classic, whose opening stage from Rotterdam to Antwerp saw some fast people in the lead in the final, ended with a superior victory for André Greipel (Lotto Belisol). The German champion showed that he has overcome his injury from spring. Greipel had previously been perfectly launched by his team. Alexander Porsev (Katusha) was second, Theo Bos (Belkin) third.
