cycling: André Greipel celebrates its premiere in Luxembourg

Cycling: André Greipel (Lotto Belisol) ended the Tour of Luxembourg with a premiere. On the fourth part of the day, the Rostocker celebrated his second stage victory - solo!

Greipel would hardly have wanted to admit that before. On the 168-kilometer fourth stage of the tour of the Duchy, he broke away from the field after a little more than thirty kilometers. Several well-known drivers were on the road with him. Among others, Andy Schleck (Trek), Danny van Poppel (Trek), Greg Henderson (NZL/Lotto-Belisol) and Jacques Janse van Rensburg (MTN-Qhubeka) were in the nine-man breakaway group, which subsequently determined the course of the race and was able to gain a maximum lead of five minutes over the field.

But anyone who would have thought that Schleck or another mountaineering driver would win the day was disappointed. When it came to the finish rounds in Luxembourg City, the German champions escaped on the Pabeierberg. And while all other former escape companions were dismissed, Greipel was able to assert himself and celebrate the first solo victory of his career.

In the end he was 14 seconds ahead of second-placed Matti Breschel (Tinkoff-Saxo), who also celebrated two stage wins and overall victory in Luxembourg, and Daniel Teklehaimanot (MTN-Qhubeka). Slvio Herklotz (Stölting) drove a strong race again. The young Berliner was fifth in the final standings.
