Testing: Muc-Off 8in1: simply clean

June 7, 2014 by the editorial office

Test: If you love your bike, you push it - we all know that's not true and that it's usually a very sarcastic saying from friends who smile at a breakdown. But if you love your bike, you clean it. Every cyclist will probably agree.

In 1994, exactly 20 years ago, Rex Trimnell began developing a product that would make it easier for us to clean our beloved bikes. Muc-Off was born and just a year later signed Steve Peat. Since then, the products have been further developed and optimized for a wide variety of applications. With the 8in1-Set we had a comprehensive package of Muc-Off in use in the first warm weeks of the year.

equipment and practice

Small but mighty – with the 8in1set, the most important products for washing your bike are stored in a small bucket: Bike Cleaner 1 l, Bike Spray 500 ml, sponge, soft wash brush, double-headed brush, triangular brush and toothed wheel brush. The 8in1-Set was used by us on both mountain bikes and racing bikes. The highlight of the Bike Cleaner is said to be the nano technology developed by Muc-Off, which is supposed to penetrate any dirt, whether oil, grease or clay, and removes it completely.

With the supplied brushes you can get into every little corner, be it the receptacles of the spokes on the hub flange, where dirt tends to get stuck, or between the chainrings. To clean it, we recommend spraying the entire bike with the Bike Cleaner, letting it soak in a bit and then removing the coarsest dirt with a large, soft sponge or a large brush. The nice thing about the Bike Cleaner is that it is completely biodegradable and you don't have to worry about possible environmental pollution. After all, many other manufacturers use the eco-unfriendly chemical club for their products - but as I said, no problem with the Muc-Off products. With a garden hose, the remaining dirt can be easily rinsed off the wheel and the beloved vehicle looks like new.

To keep it that way, Muc-Off provides protection against dirt and corrosion with the Bike Spray. So the dirt of the next descent should no longer settle and the bike is protected. Be careful with the brakes. These and the brake discs should be covered before using the bike spray, otherwise a fine film of oil will form on the brake pads and the function will be severely impaired.

All that's missing is some chain oil on the drive and you can look forward to the next tour.

Conclusion

In the muc off 8in1The set includes everything you need to take care of your beloved bike. The bucket has two useful functions and takes up very little space in the workshop. Dirt and oil can be easily removed from the bike with the Bike Cleaner. The Bike Spray also seals it afterwards against dirt.
