Product news: Samsung Smart Bike: security compatible with the phone

June 20, 2014 by the editorial office

Market: The Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung presented its own bike at the Milan Design Week, the Smart Bike.

As you would expect, the bike features a whole host of electronic gimmicks. The wheel, made by Giovanni Pelizzoli, can be easily networked with your own smartphone. There is a small battery as well as WiFi and Bluetooth sensors on the bike. A small computer called Arduino module also gives the smart bike a certain amount of intelligence.

In order to be able to operate the bike, you simply have to clamp your own smartphone onto the appropriate handlebar mount. After that, you can use your own menu to choose predefined cycle paths, if you want to. With four lasers integrated in the frame, two lines are projected onto the road to the left and right of the wheel, even if you want to choose your own route. The stripes are intended to increase the visibility of the smart bike and rider.

Another notable detail is the built-in rear camera. This is similar to a parking aid in a car, but is intended to help the driver see what is happening behind him on the smartphone display – without having to turn around.

The Samsung Smart Bike is a prototype that puts the emphasis on electronics. However, not in the sense of more driving fun, as is known from electronic rear derailleurs or e-bikes, but in the form of more safety on the road.

The following video allows you to take a look at the smart bike.
