Product news: Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2015: a one-for-all tire

June 7, 2014 by the editorial office

Market: The Schwalbe Nobby Nic is and remains Schwalbe's MTB tire with probably the widest range of uses, making it very popular with touring and all-mountain riders. Schwalbe is now presenting the third generation of the Nobby Nic.

The new Nobby Nic is Tubeless Easy. It comes standard with a new, monofilament SnakeSkin fabric on the sidewall. That makes it even less sensitive to cuts, but above all the tubeless conversion is easier and safer than ever.
The profile design has been completely revised. It should now be even more versatile and work even more confidently. To achieve this, Markus Hachmeyer, Schwalbe's chief developer, further optimized each individual stud: size, shape, surface, arrangement.

New profile

Outer knobs - With significantly larger and newly positioned side knobs, you want to improve control, especially on demanding trails.

Center lug - A rearrangement should ensure improved traction and braking performance and make the steering behavior more controllable.

V-Grooves - V-shaped cuts in the lugs bring additional braking and gripping edges, which should give the driver more control.

Spaces - Even in muddy conditions, the tire should clean itself faster thanks to the slightly larger spaces.

The mission statement was the perfect one "One for All" Tires. Markus Hachmeyer describes it like this:
“It's not the fastest XC tire, it's not the toughest enduro tire, and it's not the grippiest mud tire either, but if you're looking for a tire that works in every situation, a tire you can never go wrong with, no matter what Weather brings, no matter what terrain awaits you then there is no better choice than the new Nobby Nic".

The new SnakeSkin

The new fabric is made of a monofilament polyamide fiber and is said to bring three decisive advantages: even better cut resistance, increased puncture resistance and, above all, very easy tubeless conversion. The use of sealing liquid is required, but otherwise the assembly is just as easy as with real tubeless tires. Long conversion processes with several attempts, intensive shaking and frequent pumping should therefore no longer exist. According to Schwalbe, the cut resistance has been increased by a further 20 percent compared to the old SnakeSkin. However, the new Nobby Nic is also almost 50 grams heavier due to the new fabric.
