Clothing: Suplest SubZera: 100% cycling for women

June 20, 2014 by the editorial office

Test: Road bike shoes for women are usually cheap and anything but race-oriented. Rather, they are often aimed at female riders who only occasionally swing their leg over the saddle.

There are exceptions. The suplest SubZera is such a

equipment and practice

This street racing shoe for ladies is optically a novelty, the large proportion of gray, which reflects in the dark, is designed in the typical 2014 Suplest design. The pink tongue sets a clear contrast to the rest of the white shoe. That's why opinions differ when it comes to the optics: one is totally enthusiastic, the other less so.

But Suplest thinks that Beauty from inside is coming and has therefore packed a whole lot of features here.

The special Organic Grid-Upper material with its zones of different thicknesses and the seamless, light and robust microfibre surface ensures that the shoe sits comfortably on the foot. In addition, the reflective material ensures that you can be seen by drivers even at dusk or in the dark.

The many small air holes in the forefoot area ensure a constant flow of air and small nubs in the heel area ensure a good hold of the foot in the shoe, despite socks.

In the practical test with Shimano SPD pedals, there was no difficulty in handling the plate screwing and the rides in very warm weather were quite pleasant thanks to the air holes.

Ergo 360 degrees-Insole the foot stands well in the shoe, even when starting, but it is very large above the foot. The aluminum ratchet prevents the foot from slacking, but the two Velcro fasteners in the forefoot area cannot be pulled as tightly as one might wish if the instep height is low. Female riders with a flat instep will wear in the front part of the shoe plenty of room for improvement to have.

Conclusion

The suplest SubZera is an idiosyncratic shoe that certainly does not appeal to every female rider. However, if the look and fit suit you, this shoe is a well-made companion for everyday training and competitions with a few clever features.
