cycling: Viral disease: Carlos Betancur misses the Tour de France

Cycling: Colombian Carlos Betancur (Ag2R La Mondiale), who won the Paris-Nice long-distance race this spring, is likely to miss his start in the Tour de France.

At first it was suspected that he could have problems with his visa. However, this assumption was not confirmed. Rather, the team had already taken all the precautions to be able to extend this. As it turned out, the Colombian suffers from the cytomegalovirus. This was stated by his mentor Franco Gini, the national coach of Colombia, in an interview with the Italian magazine bike bike famous.

It also states that Betancur was originally expected by his team on June 5, but his arrival in Europe has now been postponed by a few days. Betancur's last race was the Fleché Wallone in April. Since then he has been in his home country.

It is unclear when the 24-year-old Colombian will return to racing. Gini denied rumors that there were discrepancies between Betancur and Ag2R La Mondiale.
