Market: The traditional Italian manufacturer Campagnolo has revised its wheel fleet and new ones Shamal Mille and Explore presents.
The revisions that Campagnolo have made to the wheels mainly affect the braking surfaces. From the coming season, there will be red brake pads that are used with the aluminum flanks of the Thousand, but also the diamond-treated flanks of the now wider Explore-Allow rims.
Campagnolo Bora
At the top of the wheel line-up are the new ones Explore-Sentences. These come in rim heights of 35 and 50 millimeters. The high-end version Ultra also features ceramic bearings in the hubs, while in the One steel bearings are still installed.
The width of the rims has been increased from 20,5 to 24,2 millimeters on all models. This should guarantee improved aerodynamics and enable the fitting of wider tires.
Also new is the diamond treatment of the flanks, which all models can now enjoy. So far this was the Bora Ultra 35 been reserved.
Campagnolo also points out that the new models are lighter. That's how they beat Bora Ultra 35 with 1.170 grams, the Bora Ultra 50 with 1.215 grams, the Bora One 35 with 1.215 grams and the Bora One 50 with 1.265 grams to book.
In addition, buyers receive proof that they can use Certilogo to check the authenticity of the wheels. The Italians want to prevent customers from using counterfeit wheels.
Campagnolo Shamal Mille
The Shamal are a classic in the Campagnolo range. They were first presented in the mid-1990s. The aluminum wheelset has seen a few changes since then, the latest in the area of braking surfaces. These now allow the use of the red Campagnolo carbon brake pads. The advantage: Riders can use the tried-and-tested carbon slippers in the race, but ride aluminum wheels in training without having to change the brake pads.
The Shamal Mille can nevertheless also be used in racing. The flanks are not anodized, but chemically treated, whereby the flanks should still be black even after a long period of use. In this respect, they are similar to Mavic's Exalith flanks.
Weight information and a price is for the Shamal Mille-Clincher not known so far.
