Test: The term all-mountain covers a wide range of mountain bikes. Because all-mountain, i.e. cross-country, you can ride with almost any bike.
However, identifying key features is quite difficult. The bikes can vary greatly in terms of suspension travel and geometry, and so it is quite easy for manufacturers to assign almost completely different bikes to the all-mountain sector.
With the no pogo, an all-mountain, as it is in the book, Centurion has such a bike in its range. With 150 millimeters of travel at the front and 145 millimeters at the rear, it offers enough travel for wild descents, but with a comfortable geometry it should also be perfect for extensive tours and offer a lot of comfort. This was set for the 2014 models no pogo also for the first time on the slightly larger 650B wheels.
With the centurion No Pogo 800.27 we had the entry-level model of the no pogo in action. Centurion developed this no pogo At the beginning of the 90s with a simple goal: to stop the annoying rocking of the rear end of a fully. Since then it will no pogo optimized and has developed into a supported single pivot with modern geometry.
The entry-level model is characterized by inexpensive and yet rock-solid equipment. The drive as well as the brakes come from Shimano and level with the Deore SLXcomponents the entry into the all-mountain world.
The chassis uses a mix of the epicon-Suspension fork from Sr Suntour and dem radium expert- Manitou dampers. Color coordinated completes the epicon the overall picture of no pogo and can be locked from the handlebar thanks to a remote lever. Schwalbe should provide the necessary grip Nobby Nick worry which ones up MD21- Rims from AlexRims are fitted. The Kind Shock should provide the perfect seating position and the necessary space for descents super natural offer. The seat post offers an adjustment range of 125 millimeters and is operated via a lever on the underside of the saddle.
The perfect terrain to do that no pogo We found the Rabenberg trail center to test its qualities. Perfect trails with different degrees of difficulty and long climbs - this is where the Centurion should be in its element and be able to show its strengths. The modern geometry already mentioned features a long main frame and short chainstays. This combination should give the bike a smooth ride without sacrificing agility for tight corners.
The trains of the 3×10 drive are partly stowed in the main frame and ensure a tidy look of the bike. With a gradation of 42/32/24 teeth on the crank and 11-36 teeth on the rear wheel, the no pogo over a huge range and should let the bike conquer any climb with ease.
Sit on it and feel good - the first impression is consistently positive. Even though it's not the lightest bike in its class at 13,6 kilograms, it still works no pogo solid. Uphill, it convinces with a comfortable seating position that invites you to longer tours. The traction on the rear wheel is thanks to the Nobby Nick excellent and converts every step into propulsion. Centurion has achieved the goal of constructing a drive-neutral all-mountain quite well. The rear end tends to wobble a bit when pedaling out of the saddle, but this can be remedied with a shock absorber in the higher price category. These often have several platforms that can be used to adjust the damper depending on the current use.
On the many trails of the Rabenberg, the bike particularly impressed with its smooth running. The Kind Shock seatpost did a reliable job, although we would have liked a remote lever to avoid having to constantly reach under the saddle. The chassis seemed a bit nervous though. Despite the rebound setting, the spring elements offered only moderate damping, little control and little feedback from the ground. However, the Epcion did not absorb fast hits well.
The general riding position on the descents was also very front-heavy. The long main frame and long stem made for a very hunched posture, which put a lot of pressure on the shoulders. Tight corners could still be driven comfortably fast. The short rear end gives the bike the desired playfulness, so that quick changes of direction are a lot of fun.
That caused problems Q Loc system of Epcion suspension fork. Sr Suntour's patented quick-release system works with an easy-to-use expander on the right-hand side, which opens after the quick-release axle has been pushed through, thus securing the front wheel. When removing the axle, however, it often jammed at the transitions from hub adapter to bearing.
Conclusion
The Centurion no pogo is an all-mountain classic. The cheap one 800.27Version of the no pogo offers a reasonable entry into the world of all-mountain bikes and convinces with a modern geometry and a comfortable seating position. However, the mix of components has a few weaknesses, which means that the bike's performance also suffers. With some changes you have with the no pogo but a reliable and up-to-date bike for extensive tours.
