July 30, 2014 by the editorial office

Market: The world's largest manufacturer Giant wants with its drive SyncDrive C powered by Yamaha set new standards in the mid-engine sector. Next to the SDC-Drive are also the 500 Wh battery, the up to 80 Nm torque and the excellent diagnostic options via the Giant E-Lab unique selling propositions.

“Giant has set itself the goal of bringing the most innovative e-bikes with the best drive to the market. Our new SDC powered by Yamaha model series with their highly integrated drive and the highest specific power are a new milestone in the development of e-bikes.", says Oliver Hensche, Managing Director of Giant Germany.

The new e-bike series from Giant Prime E+, Explore E+ and Full E+ all have the new one SDC-Drive that embodies a true quantum leap in terms of innovation. Smaller, lighter and more powerful than its competitors, the new SDC drive is the most innovative center motor on the market. With a weight of 3.480 grams (11% lighter than Bosch) and up to 80 Nm of torque (20 percent more torque than Bosch), the SDC has the highest specific power and, thanks to its discreet dimensions, is hardly noticeable because it is not higher than the front chainring. The associated new 2015 battery has an output of 500 Wh, an increase of 11 percent compared to the previous model and with the same housing volume.

This is achieved by using new cells with a higher energy density. This underscores the objective of getting the maximum performance out of a housing that is as compact as possible. To underline the outstanding quality, Giant gives a 3-year guarantee on the SDCEngine. This still has Giant's own 4-sensor technology. The interaction of cadence, power, engine speed and speed sensors ensures harmonious and safe driving behavior. The e-bikes with SDC impress with gentle and constant support without noticeable vibration in the pedals. The motor output is powerful and linear, which makes for a smooth ride with strong assistance at extra low speeds, especially when compared to the Bosch progressive assistance. The new 500 Wh battery increases the range to up to 140 kilometers. For a long service life and easy service, the drive runs when SDC-Motor via a 38 teeth steel chainring; a special tool is not required here. “In addition to the SDC drive powered by Yamaha, the unique selling points of Giant are the 500 Wh battery, the torque of up to 80 Nm and the excellent diagnostic options via the Giant E-Lab. These advantages have already been recognized in professional circles and are expressed, for example, in the most recent ExtraEnergy test win in three categories.", according to Hensche.

Giant's full suspension e-bike with 27.5 wheels and the SDCDrive powered by Yamaha enters the second generation. For Giant that is Full E+ a logical step, because the world's largest manufacturer in the premium sector was and is an industry pioneer in both the MTB and e-bike segments and combines both areas here. It's equipped Full E+ with the 127mm smart link suspension system. This has its main pivot at the level of the front chainring, which leads to a significant reduction in drive influences. The underbody protection of the engine housing is designed for tough off-road use. Especially with this series you use your sports control unit. This underlines the sporty off-road character of the Full E+, because the driver does not have to take his hands off the handlebar grip while driving, but always retains control of the Sport control unit. The control console is harmoniously integrated into the overall look of the bike. The all-mountain e-bike will be available in three versions in 2015.
