Cycling: Before the peloton of the Tour de France reached Paris, the women's elite on the Champs-Elysées were able to choose a winner for the first time in the history of the Tour. Her name was Marianne Vos (Rabo Liv).
The Race by Le Tour de France, as the race was called, goes back to a petition that Marianne Vos started at the beginning of the year together with some other elite drivers.
It is therefore hardly surprising that the team of the reigning world champion was active - especially in the form of the French Pauline Ferrand Prevot. Halfway through the 90-kilometer race in the heart of Paris, she showed herself chasing the breakaway Ellen Van Dijk. However, together with Charlotte Becker (Wiggle Honda), she was not able to put the fast-paced Dutchman in place.
Other actions by Prevot were also thwarted in the final. After Van Dijk was caught almost 30 kilometers from the finish, there were repeated attacks. However, none was crowned with success.
In the final, the teams Giant-Shimano, Rabo-Liv and Boels Dolmans set the pace at the front. Then, under the devil's rag, a fall tore the front of the field - involving Prevot and Lizzie Armitstead (Boels Dolmans).
The reigning German champion Lisa Brennauer (Specialized-Lululemon) was the first to turn down the Champs-Elysées. However, she failed to maintain the lead. In the end, she finished fourth. The favorite, Marianne Vos, secured victory, clearly ahead of Kirsten Wild (Giant-Shimano) and Lea Kirchman (Optum).
