cycling: Mark Cavendish has to retire from the Tour de France

July 6, 2014 by the editorial office

Cycling: For the British Mark Cavendish (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) the Tour de France is already over. After his fall in the final of the first stage, he had to retire from the race.

Cavendish had caused a crash in the final of stage one at Harrogate. "It was my own fault", he later admitted frankly. In the hospital it turned out that he had stretched several ligaments and dislocated his right shoulder.

This morning, together with his team, he decided to give up the race early. "Of course it's difficult, but it's probably the more sensible decision."
