Market: Caterham – well-known for fast sports cars and not least from Formula 1 – has used its accumulated know-how over the past few months and years to construct a bicycle line that will be presented to a broad public for the first time at Eurobike 2014.
In addition to the racing bike dubbed Duo Cali with a carbon frame, which will be available in four different equipment variants, the Brits also have the Fairspear in their portfolio, which with its classic steel frame is intended as a homage to their style-defining Super 7.
The team around chief designer Marc Vischer used Caterham's extensive experience in the field of carbon processing to give the frame of the Duo Cali an incomparable design language without losing sight of the technology. The frame, which is designed as a monocoque from the dropout to the head tube, excelled in advance on the test bench and delivered excellent rigidity values at a low weight. This noble piece of carbon is rounded off by our own detailed solutions, of which Caterham is particularly proud.
The bike offers a specially developed stem integrated into the frame design and an integrated seat post. The Duo Cali will appear in four variants: In addition to the limited edition of the racing bike, of which only 73 units will be available, Caterham is also addressing a wider audience with the Duo Cali Record and Duo Cali Chorus models.
The Cali Urban EPS duo designed for urban use with a flat bar and specially developed Campagnolo EPS shifters completes the model series. From the frame and painting to the final assembly of the wheels, every step of the work takes place in Germany.
There is still little information about the steel racer christened Caterham Fairspear. The frame, which is welded from the Reynolds 853 Pro Team tube set, already makes an extremely classy impression and we are curious to see what the complete bike will ultimately look like.
