Lifestyle: The ex-professional Jörg Ludewig (Alpecin-Lightweight) won the fourth edition of the Arlberg-Giro at the weekend. More than 1.400 participants tackled the route around St. Anton am Arlberg.
After the start, the 1.804 meter high Arlberg Pass was the first stage on the program. Here Ludewig laid the foundation for his later victory. Together with Emanuel Nösig (Mooserwirt Ridley St. Anton am Arlberg) he was able to break away from the field.
Meanwhile, Stefan Kirchmair (Kirchmair Cycling Team) secured the best time up the second climb, the Bieler-Höhe, with a time of 00:35:48,8. Together with the Italian Alessandro Bertuola (Team Beraldo Greenpaper Europa Ovini), he managed to catch up with Ludewig.
In the last few kilometers it was Ludewig again who pushed the pace and in the end won Andreas Traxl as a soloist ahead of Italian Roberto Cunico (Team Beraldo Greenpaper Europa Ovini).
"Here at the Arlberg Giro the 'Who's Who' of the amateur scene was at the start and I was almost alone at the start against strong competition, so my motto this time was attack is the best defense right from the start.", said Ludewig after the race.
In the women's category, Daniela Pintarelli (Mooserwirt Ridley St. Anton am Arlberg) won ahead of Monika Dietl (Kirchmair Cycling Team) and Christina Willy-Kraxner (Peto Repower Team).
