Product news: Bike and hiking app komoot complements tour planning

September 30, 2014 by the editorial office

Market: Version 6.0 of the outdoor app komoot for hikes, bicycle, road bike and mountain bike tours was released today for iOS and Android. True to the motto "simple and smart" in nature, komoot is now making it easier for its users to find their outdoor experience with inspiring highlights that other users recommend.

Users have always been able to photograph beautiful places while recording a tour, save them as waypoints in their tour and share them with the komoot community. Komoot is now actively using this function and, when the app is started, shows the highlights from the community that match the user's location and preferences. The images are inspiring and immediately give an impression of the landscape and the nature of the tours: The user can see at first glance whether the hike is on a ridge, the road bike route runs over small streets or the single trail corresponds to their own thirst for adventure.

"The user opens the app and you're good to go", says Markus Hallermann, CEO and co-founder of komoot. "He simply swipes through the highlights, we learn what he likes and then suggest the right tours for it - smart!"

With version 6.0, users can plan their outdoor adventures worldwide and be spontaneously navigated through impassable terrain. The map material has been expanded to cover the entire world.
An internet connection is only required to plan the tour and download the offline maps. The topographical data is then stored on the smartphone: the user is independent of the available data network in rough terrain or abroad and is guided reliably by GPS voice navigation. Tracking functions such as tour recording, speedometer display, speed and remaining distance are of course included.
