Test: In the professional sector, a stiff shoe is essential when it comes to power transmission to the pedal. Florian Nowak (Team Stuttgart) has the Pearl Izumi Pro Leader II put through its paces in the past few weeks.
equipment and practice
The shape of Pro Leader II is sporty on the outside and the right design for racing drivers. With its seamless Second Skin- Upper shoe, according to the manufacturer the thinnest upper shoe on the market at 0,9 millimeters, it adapts individually to the shape of the foot. In addition, the material is ideal for preventing heat build-up and offering outstanding breathability.
The Octane-Carbon sole offers feather-light stiffness and the integrated Direct-Vent technology ensures cooling and moisture evacuation from below. Another special feature is the concave sole curvature with a height of only 6,5 millimeters for more sole rigidity and better anatomical support. The connection in the joint between the sole and the upper part of the shoe is well rounded.
The shoe closure with a Velcro strip and a Boa-Rotary fastener is fully adapted to the foot in connection with the upper leather. No punctiform pressure points are noticeable. The foot sits firmly and securely in the ball and instep area as well as in the heel area. Even under extreme loads in competition, the foot is firmly embedded and firmly connected to the pedal.
Conclusion
The Pearl Izumi Pro Leader II has proven itself both in racing and in training. The fit is unique due to the customization feature of the upper. With a weight of 245 grams for a size 43 and solid stiffness, it has the potential to be one of the top racing shoes on the market.
