Cycling: In 2017, the Rothaus Hegau Bike-Marathon will be the venue for the world championships in mountain bike marathons. This was announced by the world cycling association UCI on Thursday in Ponferrada, Spain.
"Fantastic. We are totally happy", was quoted as course manager Uli Lutz, who was present at the awarding of the title fights in Ponferrada. Bernd Walz, representing the city of Singen, was also happy with him: “We are overjoyed. This is of immense importance for the city and the entire Hegau.”
The World Championships will be held on the route of the Rothaus Hegau Bike-Marathon with start and finish in Singen am Hohentwiel. The European Marathon Championships will be held here next year.
The reigning German champion Tim Böhme, who comes from the region, definitely wants to stay in the saddle until then, "I'm really happy. Who can claim to be able to compete in a World Championship in their hometown.”
The organizer Skyder Sportpromotion is also happy: “A world championship is of course the icing on the cake. We are very happy about the trust that the UCI has placed in us. Preparations start practically as soon as we get home”, explained Stephan Salscheider, Managing Director of Skyder.
