Test: Looking out the window, it quickly becomes clear that autumn is just around the corner. So it's about time to test the material for the upcoming cyclocross season to prepare the bike for competition mode.
We tested the rather unknown Vredestein Black Panther CX for you. Can he stand up to Dugast and Challenge?
The assembly is very quick and works even without tire levers. At first contact, it is noticeable that the tire has a fairly thick carcass despite its weight of 380 grams. This should protect against breakdowns, which has also proven to be true in practice.
The performance on dry, firm forest and forest roads is very good. The tire rolls very smoothly thanks to its dense central tread and also offers excellent grip in muddy corners thanks to its pronounced outer lugs. Due to its rather hard carcass and the recommended minimum pressure of 3,5 bar, the tire is unfortunately not a comfort miracle.
Conclusion
The Vredestein Black Panther CX is a very well made training tire that lasts a long time and offers excellent puncture protection. For racing use, however, it is not a real alternative to Dugast, Challenge and Co.
