Lifestyle: Only 35 kilometers from Prüm, the bike park in St. Vith in Belgium invites you to trail ride. Located on the northern slope of the Volmersberg, the single trail paradise borders directly on the Vennbahn cycle path (RAVel). The site is open and can be used free of charge at any time.
The trails criss-cross the 50 meters of altitude of the wooded slope. The subsoil is normal forest soil with a lot of roots in places, but there are fewer stones. Divided into short and crisp sections, the trails have a total length of around 5 kilometers. Every biker can thus determine the course of the tour himself. The route sections are divided into three driving levels and are colour-coded.
Color coding of the different levels
An easy trail is marked by blue signposts, the sections with red signs are somewhat more demanding. The route sections marked in black should only be aimed at by experienced bikers. Such a black section is a North Shore meandering along the slope at a height of three meters. However, there is always the possibility of bypassing the more difficult passages in the Bike Park St. Vith.
The technology course
At the western end of the MTB terrain is the technical training area, where you can train your sense of balance and bike control. The exercises include slalom driving, braking and pedaling on impassable roads. In addition to north shores and narrow bars, there is also a see-saw. Unfortunately, all landings on the course are flat, which is neither contemporary nor material-friendly. Due to the narrow elements, it is unfortunately difficult for inexperienced bikers to approach it.
Directions, location of the park and parking facilities
The bike park can be reached from the Triangel culture and exhibition center (Schwarzer Weg) via the Vennbahn cycle path (RAVel). Sufficient free parking spaces are available. On the way to the park, there is the opportunity to bring body and mind up to operating temperature on the single trails that run parallel to the bike path. The camping area is at the eastern end of the bike park. A large children's playground can be found here, as well as a good place to stop for refreshments with a beer garden ("Zur alten Mühle").
Conclusion
The beautifully designed single trails offer a lot of variety. The bike park primarily appeals to XC and All Mountain bikers. There should be more jumps and north shores for enduro riders. For a better grip and more safety, the wooden planks should be provided with rabbit wire
