cycling: Milan-Turin: Giampaolo Caruso snatches victory away from favorites

2 October 2014 by the editorial office

katusha

Cycling: The Italian Giampaolo Caruso (Katusha) has won the Italian autumn classic Milan-Turin. He prevailed in the final against his flight companion Rinaldo Nocentini (Ag2R-La Mondiale). Daniel Moreno (Katusha) came on rag three.

Due to the increase in the finish line in Turin, many had expected Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) to win, especially since the Spaniard was able to rely on the help of the Czech Roman Kreuziger for the first time since the summer. However, the Vuelta winner was caught flat-footed by Caruso's attack, as were Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha) and Fabio Aru. Only Nocentini was able to follow the Italian.

The Katusha team presented itself strongly and should therefore be the hunted team on Sunday in the Lombardy Tour - especially since they provided last year's winner with Rodriguez.
