cycling: UCI Marathon Series: Markus Bauer with a happy ending

Cycling: Markus Bauer (Lexware) finished the marathon race at the Roc d'Azur in Fréjus with a result that was conciliatory for him. In the end he was 83th after 15 kilometers. Five days earlier things were not going so well for him in Ornans.

In Fréjus, Bauer was able to position himself in the leading group around Olympic champion Jaroslav Kulhavy, Jochen Käß and Moritz Milatz in the first half of the race. However, when the latter fell, Bauer stopped his run to take care of Milatz. The train to the front had left for him.

“On the last hill I was just 30 seconds behind the group that I needed for the stop. But I don't blame myself for that. That was the right thing to do, it's easy to do.", explained Bauer after the race.

Maxime Marotte secured the victory after 3:34:14 hours in front of Christoph Sauser. Käß finished tenth as the best German.

“Compared to last Sunday, it was 120 percent better. I felt good on the bike and was able to make up time on the descents. The last punch on the mountain is missing at the end of the season.", Bauer continues. Indeed, things did not go to his liking at Ornans. In the end he was 29th on the day behind the winner Kristian Hynek.

Both races are part of the UCI Marathon Series.
